PowerDAC

This blog is about using multilevel inverter design to implement a fully digital amplifier, or a PowerDAC.  The idea is to take a digital word at the input of the amplifier and produce an equivalent, amplified version of it at the output.

The result is a versatile component, best characterized as a Digital to Analog converter, capable of delivering significant power.  It can reproduce any type of waveform that can be generated using a series of digital words, from audio amplifiers to motor controllers, to signal generation and programmable power supplies.
