Wide variety of cards for power electronics.

The PED-kit consists of a wide variety of cards, each serving a specific purpose to enhance its functionality. These cards encompass MOSFET, IGBT, and SCR gate drive cards, as well as voltage, current, and temperature sensor cards. Additionally, there are MCU control cards, average mode, and peak mode current control cards, digital and analog I/O card, relay output card, and auxiliary voltage regulator cards responsible for powering the control electronics. Together, these cards provide comprehensive support to the PED-kit’s operations.

Dedicated back-planes for various types of power electronic topologies.

The PED-kit cards are seamlessly integrated into a tailored backplane specifically designed to meet the demands of a given application. This setup is commonly utilized for single-phase H-bridge, three-phase bridge, SCR rectifiers, and AC voltage controllers. Furthermore, the PED-kit is also capable of accommodating multilevel inverters and converters, expanding its versatility to cater to a broader range of power electronics configurations.

Building blocks for power electronics development across diverse applications.

The availability of these building blocks facilitates the fast-paced development of controllers for diverse applications. These applications encompass various types of motors, battery chargers, power supplies, DC/AC inverters, welding machines, rectifiers utilizing both SCR and switch mode technologies, and numerous other applications in the realm of power electronics.

Rapid development and code libraries.

Once the control electronics design is managed by the PED-kit, the development of power electronics for new applications becomes fast and centres around selecting the suitable cards and generating application-specific embedded code. Over time, users build up a repository of embedded code, resulting in even more streamlined development processes and reduced time requirements.

Valuable power electronics training tool

The PED-Kit is a valuable training tool for students seeking to gain expertise in power electronics and focus on comprehending power electronics operation and control. It obviates the requirement for students to invest time and effort in developing control electronics hardware, enabling them to directly engage in hands-on exploration of practical power electronics development aspects.

Hardware in the loop interfacing is built in.

The hardware of the PED-kit is specifically designed to interface seamlessly with FPGA-based hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems, streamlining the development process. PowerON provides an affordable HIL solution that utilizes op-amp technology. This HIL system includes low voltage inverter and converter boards capable of generating PWM waveforms like those produced by full power converters or inverters. These waveforms are then applied to an op-amp circuit that emulates the LC filter and load typically encountered in various applications. This setup enables preliminary design verification at a fundamental level.
