Switch Mode Oscillators

Switch mode oscillators do not use any ICs and offer a low cost alternative with closed loop regulation and output current limiting.

This blog is about self-resonant switch mode power supplies.  This type of power converter is used in, for example, cell phone battery chargers and provide very cost-effective solutions up to 1kW.  This blog is about exploring this type of converter.  There are quite a few versions of this type of converter, from flyback, to half and full bridge versions.

We explore these various types of converter circuits, how they work and how planar transformers can be introduced into the design to make them even more cost effective and compact.
